Since the release of "The Secret" more people than ever before, from all around the world, are using the Law of Attraction to shape their lives.

But not everyone is seeing the results they've been hoping for - largely because they believe one or more of the top eight misleading myths about deliberate creation.

These myths are so prevalent - and so damaging - because each one is based on a kernel of truth. But anyone who accepts them 'as is' will run into problems.

If you're struggling to make deliberate creation work for you then you're probably working under one or more of these misconceptions:

Myth #1: Deliberate Creation Doesn't Take Any Work

This is one of the most common myths about deliberate creation. Many people believe that positive thinking, affirmations and gratitudewill solve all of their problems. They don't need to do anything more than think 'I'm rich' or 'I'm slim' over and over and keep their chin up and the Universe will hand over whatever they want on a silver platter.

But your thoughts are just one aspect of your being - your emotions, your energy, your communications, your environment, your physiology and your actions are equally important.

Becoming a powerful conscious creator is about more than just telling yourself how wonderful everything will be - it's a journey that involves continual growth, contemplation, and (yes) work.

Myth #2: I Need to Work Hard to Make Deliberate Creation Work

The flipside of the last myth is the idea that you need to work hard for deliberate creation to work at all. Not only do you need to think positively and be grateful for what you have, you also need to continually strive and struggle to get anything you want.

If it's wealth that you want then you need to think positive and be grateful and work eighty hours a week and always have the right answers and be one step ahead of the competition and... and... and...

What a nightmare!

If you feel like you're struggling that's a sure sign that you're working against the natural abundance of existence instead of harnessing the power of the Law of Attraction.

Myth #3: In Order to Harness the Law of Attraction, You Must Stop All Negative Thought

Positive thought is good, negative thought is bad. Right?

Well... not quite. Sometimes 'negative' thought is practical and necessary.

If you're about to cross the street you should watch for traffic. Otherwise you might get hit by a car.

If you're planning a road trip, you should keep a spare tire in case of a flat. Otherwise you might end up stranded.

If you're entering a business deal you should go over the fine print to make sure you don't get ripped off. Otherwise - well, otherwise you might get ripped off!

'Thinking positive' isn't the same thing as putting on blinders and ignoring the 'negative' in life. That's just asking for trouble.

Myth #4: Whatever I Believe Will Come True

Some people take the idea that 'thoughts become reality' too literally. They think that if they go to a job interview and afterwards think 'I'm not getting the job' and they fret and worry then they definitely won't get the job. Or if they think 'I'm absolutely for sure getting the job' then they definitely will.

That just ain't so.

Look, I'm not saying that amazing 'coincidences' don't come into play when you're using the Law of Attraction. I'm saying that you shouldn't expect a literal translation of thoughts and beliefs into reality.

Think about the stories you've heard of people taking drugs, believing they could fly, and jumping off buildings. Their thoughts and beliefs don't save them.

Deliberate creation isn't about being God and calling all the shots. It's more like being the director of a movie - you choose how to put together the elements of your film (your life), but you do it along with the cast, crew, script and set provided.

Myth #5: I Create Reality

This myth is closely related to the last one. According to this myth you're the center of reality, and everything is the way it is because of your conscious and subconscious beliefs and thoughts. Not so.

There is a Source of reality that 'created' you and everything else in existence. As an aspect of this Source you have incredible powers of creation. But everything else in existence also comes from Source and is an aspect of Source. You - the ego self - aren't calling the shots.

You're co-creating along with Source.

Shakespeare once wrote 'all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players'. Just remember it's not a one person show.

Myth #6: When We Get Enough People to Believe They Can Fly, We'll All Fly

People who understand that we're all co-creating often fall for the myth that we have the power to do anything we want - like ignore gravity and fly around - if we can only get enough people to really believe and go along with it.

If that was true, then it would have been impossible to invent airplanes. After all, before the Wright brothers everyone knew that heavier than air flight was impossible.

There have been many mass delusions throughout history. There are many mass delusions today. But no matter how many people believe or how strong their convictions, delusions remain delusions.

Myth #7: The Point of Deliberate Creation is to Get Stuff

Some people approach deliberate creation like it's a genie that will magically grant their wishes. Well, there's nothing wrong with using the Law of Attraction to 'get stuff' - money, relationships, whatever. But if you use things as your measure of success then you're bound to run into all sorts of problems.

The real measure of success is your experience of life. If you're the richest man in the world but you're not happy, then you haven't succeeded at all.

Experiences are the roots of all of your desires anyways. Think about it - are you really after the money, or the life that you'll be able to live once you have it?

Myth #8: This Deliberate Creation Stuff is a Bunch of Woo-woo Heebeejeebe Out-There New Age Fluff

There's a very influential crowd of 'skeptics' out there who think they know everything. They campaign in the name of 'science' and 'rationality' and pronounce judgement on anything outside of their system of beliefs.

You've been conditioned throughout your life to accept science and rational thought as the final measure of what is and isn't true. That makes it very hard to keep these 'skeptics' from infecting you with doubt.

But science isn't really about people pronouncing things true or untrue. It's about systematically and empirically testing your assumptions about reality.

It's fine to have doubts when someone claims to know secret truths - it's better than fine, it's downright healthy. But continually doubting yourself is no way to take charge of your life.

So here's the antidote - become a skeptic yourself. Don't just buy into the Law of Attraction. Don't buy into the doubters either. If the Law of Attraction is real then it's based on actual principles that really do work. Go out, test, and observe the results. (You know, like a real scientist.)

And remember, you don't need to know why it works. It's enough to find out whether or not it does.

It's like using a light switch. You probably don't understand exactly how electricity works, but that doesn't stop you from turning on the lights. And once you've flicked the switch no light bulb skeptic will ever be able to convince you that electricity is New Age bunk.

So go ahead and flick the switch of deliberate creation. See what happens.

Final Thoughts

Now that you've identified these myths you'll have an easier time successfully putting deliberate creation into practice. But please don't just leave it here - there's so much more for you to discover. And every step down the path leads to a richer life.
