Drinking problems have several signs and symptoms which start to show at an early stage. Most therapists are able to identify them accurately and treat the desease with proper scientific methods. Alcoholism is a disease and patients affected with it need proper treatment and psychological support. Alcoholism is also considered a progressive disease it becomes more severe over time. As such, it is necessary to diagnose the problem at an early stage and find an alcohol treatment center which suits your needs.

Most alcoholic treatment facilities are able to diagnose the problem with the following early signs of the disease like:

Early signs –

  • Frequent intoxication
  • Heavy drinking or binge drinking
  • Drinking while driving
  • Periodic black outs after heavy drinking
  • Drastic change in the behavior
  • Periodic bouts of anger or violence

Alcohol Abuse

  • Continuing to drink even after the recurrent problems
  • Inability to quit even after it is causing user to miss work
  • Avoiding responsibilities and getting into trouble frequently

Experts at an alcohol treatment center would describe alcohol abuse as a problem of social, psychological, occupation and physical nature which are brought about due to the extensive abuse of alcohol. The World health organization describes alcohol abuse as any harmful use of alcohol.

Alcoholism

Large amounts of time are spent in activities which are related to alcohol.

Experiencing withdrawal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, headache or tremor)

Alcohol treatment centers keep the above things in mind when they diagnose alcoholism. Since binge drinking has become popular with teenagers the incidence of becoming an alcoholic has increased. In a recent survey it was observed that the ratio of male to female problem drinkers is about 5 to 3. Students who binge drink cause property damage, accidents and are involved in various different sexual assaults as well as physical assaults.

Alcohol treatment center treat patients through:

  • Private therapy:Individual counseling is mandatory for all patients who are admitted to the center.
  • Group therapy:There are many different kinds of group sessions that are available to patients. Some are mandatory and some are not depending on what the patients needs are "Life Skills". These group sessions ready the addict for a sober life and diminish their chances of relapse.

Patients are encouraged to involve themselves in exercises and different meditation programs. They are also involved in community work. People feel more satisfied if they can contribute to society. As such even after they are out of the facility, they are encouraged to take up programs that would help them spiritually. It is important for the patient to remain engaged in some kind of productive activity, so the mind does not remain idle.

Out of design facilities are a controlled environment where patients do not have access to alcohol, but after they graduate from their alcohol treatment center they are faced with constant temptation over and over again. As result some might suffer a relapse. To avoid the consequences of relapse, most facilities teach their patients and educate them on skills through which they can avoid running into this vicious cycle once again.
