It's unbelievable. There are some cosmetic companies that would have you believe that taking a collagen supplement can produce dramatic improvements in the signs of aging.  I know this sounds wonderfully promising, but when it comes down to it, do collagen pills help your skin reclaim a youthful appearance?

Well, there is no denying that the anti aging properties of the protein, collagen, have received a lot of attention from the scientific community.  Their focus on the natural healing abilities of the human body has revealed the critical role that collagen plays in, not only smooth, firm skin, but joint mobility, and bone strength, as well.

However, these experts have also discovered that developing a pill for building collagen is something that remains beyond the reach of their scientific abilities.  So the answer to the question, "do collagen pills help your skin?" unfortunately, is, "no."

But you shouldn't let this discourage you from looking into other ways of building collagen.  Truth be told, producing this protein, naturally, from within your body is really the only way to achieve the results you're looking for.

So if this is the case, you're probably also wondering about the effectiveness of creams that contain collagen. Well, I hate to disappoint you, but these anti-aging products are useless as well.  Despite the fact that scientists have developed a cosmetic-grade of collagen, this artificial substance lacks the complexity and effectiveness of the collagen protein that is produced, naturally, in the body.

But let's get back to the subject at hand: building collagen naturally.  This is a straightforward goal that, I believe, is worth pursuing.   But I would like to guide your pursuit away from wondering, "do collagen pills help your skin?" and toward doing some simple things that can boost your production of these powerful body and skin-supporting proteins.

The first step is to give your body a rest from fighting off damaging UV rays of the sun.  If you're consistent about limiting sun exposure, your levels of damaging free radicals will be drastically reduced.

Next, increase your intake of clean water.  This is essential for preventing a build up of harmful toxins and waste products in the body.  This also gives your cells a much-needed rest.

Once you've reduced the threat of damage to your cells, you can begin building collagen and elastin again.  This is accomplished in two ways: 1. boost your body's antioxidant activity; 2. reactivate normal cell function.  Don't worry.  This is much easier than it sounds.

All you have to do is add lots of antioxidant-rich foods to your diet.  This means eating fruits and vegetables that have bright colors.

Next, stimulate and support healthy cell function by using skin care products with high concentrations of bio-active ingredients.  Ingredients extracted from nature are molecularly-compatible with your "natural" skin.  They are readily absorbed and go to work nourishing tired, flagging skin cells.  These specially-harvested nutrients have been clinically proven to stimulate natural collagen production.

It would be wonderful if I could answer the question, "do collagen pills help your skin?," with a "yes."  But until science is able to successfully copy the amazing workings of the body, your best bet for building collagen is a natural, common-sense approach.  Protecting and supporting your body's natural healing ability is the most effective way for reclaiming a youthful appearance.
