Do you think you are getting enough sleep at night to stay healthy?

By Dennis Fisher.

People with sleeping problems who only sleep a few hours each night often worry they are not getting enough sleep to keep healthy.  This is understandable because so much has been written about the dangers of sleep deprivation and how it can affect your health.

People are under the impression that it is necessary  to have at least six to eight hours sleep every night to stay healthy.

If you are not sleeping well at night it is natural to be concerned about health.  And the more you worry about your health this in itself can cause health problems..

How much sleep do you think you need to be healthy?

According to most medical authorities you cannot establish the precise amount of sleep your body requires. It will vary according to your constitution.  Sleeping can, in some ways,  be compare to eating.  Some people eat far more than others and are always in the best of health, because they are very active physically.  Others seem to be able to get by with very much less food.

With regard to sleeping, it is clear that many people seem to be able to do with very little sleep and still lead active, healthy lives.  It probably depends to a large extent on the quality of their sleep.

It is a well known fact there are people who go to be very late at night and manage to immediately fall into a deep sleep asleep the moment their heads hit the pillow. They sleep soundly for only 3-4   hours and wake up early in the morning feeling completely refreshed and invigorated

How do they manage to do this?   In the first place, they have established good sleeping habits that suit their lifestyle. And secondly,  the sleep they enjoy is of a very good quality.  Although relatively short, it is sound, comfortable, restful, undisturbed sleep.

Probably the best way you can assess how much sleep you need is the way you feel when you wake up in the morning.

If you find that you feel relaxed, rested and comfortable in the morning after only four or five hours sleep, then obviously this is the optimum amount of sleep suitable for your own individual constitution. There is obviously no need to worry unnecessarily about your lack of sleep.

If you are someone who needs a full eight hours of sleep to feel completely, rested, comfortable and relaxed in the morning, then clearly this the amount of  sleep your body needs and you should establish the correct sleeping habits so that this is the amount you are going to get each night.

The problem arises when you suffer from insomnia and only manage to get very little sleep at night. If you feel absolutely drained and exhausted in the morning and have to drag yourself out of bed, then clearly something has to be done about your sleep habits.

Insomnia and sleep disorders can be cured.  There are sleep management systems that describe effective ways to solve sleep problems so you can enjoy sound, healthy sleep every night.
