Dr. Darrel Ray and "The God Virus"
I recently had the pleasure of taking a pleasant sixty minute drive from Fayetteville Arkansas to Joplin Missouri for the purpose of attending a FreeThought meeting that was focused on Dr. Darrel Ray and his new book, "The God Virus." This experience turned out to be one of the better such meeting I've attended.
If you've not yet read Dr. Ray's book, by giving yourself the chance to hear him speak you'll be treating yourself to tantalizing introduction to both the man and his book. If you've already read "The God Virus" and you've turned its last page, you'll very likely be moved to return to it and take a second look.
With his fast paced delivery and a touch of an always-leave-'em-laughin' attitude, Dr. Ray is able to entertain and inform an audience of diversely differing intellectual backgrounds all in perfect sync, simultaneously. He is more than prepared to efficiently define hard science concepts, taking questions on the fly for the benefit of his less-scientific laymen listeners, while not draining the hot shower waters on those listeners representing the peek-eared scholarly types, and thus leaving nobody cold in the passing. The happy result of Dr. Rays showmanship rich delivery style, complete with its appropriate slide projected visuals and even some not-to-shabby stage acting on Dr Ray's part, amounts to a well satisfied and overall better informed audience in the end.
Of "The God Virus" itself... be prepared to use your head, open up your mind and raise your level of awareness of just how pervasively dangerous and disturbingly potent the virtual infection of religion has potentially become - itisthe equivalent to an able adaptable hybrid species. Discovering that viroid Religion spreads with the speed and ease of the most cunning of biologic organisms, just as Dr. Ray's aptly chosen imagery name of religion suggests, you'll be challenged to look upon the health of today's society through changed eyes. But the question eventually come down to, "How?" ... How does religion invade every aspect of society and how does it do so with such ease? The answer, by some simple intellectual distillation, comes down to, "Ask Dr Ray. Read "The God Virus."
