Discovering At times there may be blocks that are hindering success using affirmations or trying meditation. The problem is not with the process, but with certain beliefs we have that are so ingrained, so much a part of us, that we are unaware that they are false. These beliefs are blocking us from the full benefit of receiving the goodness the Universe desires to give to us. But how can we get rid of those nonproductive beliefs if we don't know what they are? It may take some extra work to discover what is holding us back, but it's not all that hard once we set our intention, and it is well worth the little effort it takes when we consider the benefits. One way is to watch what you are thinking. Stand back from yourself for a few days, as if you are an observer. Watch for thoughts of fear, self-pity, and anger. When you become aware of them, it's a good idea to write them down as soon as you get a chance. Don't worry, you're not going to have to stop every time you have a negative thought and write it down for the rest of your life. For one thing, if you follow these suggestions, you won't have as many negative thoughts soon. For another, just doing this for a short period of time you will begin to see patterns. Another way to find patterns of beliefs that are holding you back is to look at responses to positive affirmations that you may have and write them down. What kind of responses come up for you? If you write down things like "those good things could never happen to me" or "I don't think I'm meant to be happy or rich or whatever" then you may have a belief that you don't deserve to be happy. Or, there may be someone that you think you can't forgive or that you can't be forgiven. You may have the common belief that forgiveness means condoning the behavior. The truth is that forgiveness frees us. Looking at your responses will help you discover what things are blocking you. Discarding Once you have discovered what beliefs are holding you back there are some things you can do to release or discard them. - Find or purchase any kind of a container such as an old recipe box, an index card box, or a shoebox.
- On scraps of paper, about the size of sticky notes, briefly jot down worries, guilt feelings, anger, fears, or any other negative feeling or beliefs that you know are not beneficial for you and others.
- Put the scraps of paper in the box and shut it up tight.
- Quite your mind and affirm:I am now releasing all negative thoughts and beliefs to be taken into the Universe for transformation and healing. Now release.
- If thoughts come back, remind yourself that they have been taken into the care of the Universe. They no longer belong to you or are a part of you.
- If you are still having trouble, make a time limit for yourself. Make a decision that you will allow yourself 30 minutes, for example, to carry around your box and take over God's job. You are allowed for example to worry for 30 minutes.
- You may still feel challenged about getting certain thoughts out of your head. Not being able to forgive and intense worry are two common emotions that cause this kind of obsessive thinking. Pick up the box and carry it around with you for while. Don't allow yourself to put it down, not to answer the phone or do a chore or lie down or for any reason at all. Everything you do will have to be done while carrying the box. This is a very tactile experience to send to your subconscious about the consequences of carrying around this baggage.
