High blood pressure is considered as a "silent killer" because it can catch a person unaware that he has already a heart disease. Hypertension is the other term for high blood pressure.

Common symptoms of high blood pressure are dizziness, headaches and nose bleeds. A person with high blood pressure often experience pain at the back of their necks especially when they wake up in the morning. Although we cannot say that hypertension is a disease are threatening diseases, what is threatening is hypertension in the high level of blood pressure which can cause either stroke or heart attack. The only way to monitor this is through a regular check-up with your doctor and dietician for your daily food intake.

It is often a recommendation to have a change in your daily food intake, a change to your major lifestyle and regular exercise or regular activities. Diet can be considered as a major change in your lifestyle. A proper diet can give smooth circulation of blood to your heart. If you are obese, it's the best thing to lose weight because the blood pressure is equivalent to the body's weight too.

Another major change in your lifestyle would include your vices- smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages and even prohibited or dangerous drugs. All of these have deleterious effects to our health and which should be avoided. It is really difficult to change your lifestyle overnight but you can do this gradually. For example, you are a chain smoker who can consume a pack of cigarette per day. You can reduce this cigarette consumption daily until such time that you no longer crave for cigarettes. Same is through with alcoholic beverages, you can reduce your daily consumption until such time that you no longer want to drink it. Dangerous or prohibited drugs are really bad to our health. If you had been addicted to this, then let yourself be reformed through the reformatory institutions existing in the country.

Regular exercises include jogging, walking or strolling, aerobics, or participation in sports activities likes swimming, running, ball games, golf, tennis and similar sports. Going outdoor is also good for lowering high blood pressure. Looking at the beauty of nature or having fresh air breaths while in the beaches are good medicines to reduce stress; thus, reducing the level of your blood pressure too. This is the best way of stress management.

Drinking coffee is already the habit of many. Some can consume more than five cups daily. Especially the elderly or the senior citizens, they are the group of individuals who are heavy coffee drinkers. But drinking too much is to be avoided. There are those who combine drinking coffee with smoking especially when relaxing or watching television. These are risks for high blood pressure. Just minimize your coffee drinking to a cup or two per day.  Avoid smoking too for it can lead to health complications in the future.
