We take alcohol, for various reasons and just as a means of fun. While we may be doing this in innocence, we should be careful not to lose control of it and eventually get addicted. Being dependent on alcohol is what is known as alcoholism and its effects, which range from mental, physical, to psychological, can prove to be really disastrous if not controlled at the initial stages of development. Different bodies have different levels of sensitivity to alcohol such that, while some may take three decades to get affected by alcohol abuse, others take only three years! Addiction should be considered an illnesses as it mentally affects the victim. Increased aggressiveness and agitation at any small things, is usually a sign of a mental illness setting in. During advanced stages the victim becomes abusive and violent which could cause them to commit crimes. Depletion of thiamine and vitamin B complex, is also another effect of alcoholism which affects the nervous system, causing tingling sensations and numbness of the limbs. This later results in delayed clotting time and hypertension and as a result leads to stroke which could be fatal. Addiction also causes overproduction of gastric acids which erode the gastric causing an illness known as gastritis and ulcerations too. As a result the liver gets damaged and affects metabolism, bile production and excretion causing alcoholic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. Other effects of alcoholism are altered digestion of proteins leading to loss of muscle mass and loss of energy, altering the appearance and body sensitivity of the person. Weakening of the cardiac muscles and increased blood pressure is also another problem associated with addiction which eventually leads to cardiac arrests. All in all the best way to avoid the addiction is to abstain.
