One of the latest innovations that every man and woman enjoys today are electronic cigarettes. As the name implies, it is a battery powered cigarette deemed as the best, if not, the only alternative to tobacco smoking. The small amounts of nicotine it provides for every inhalation allow regular smokers and those who are planning to quit smoking to try the same relaxation we usually derive from tobacco.
Electronic cigarettes, also popularly known as e-cigarettes, look, taste and feel like a real cigarette. Although the nicotine content of e-cigarettes is relatively lower than that of tobacco products, it can satisfy the same cravings in many ways. The very act of inhaling as well as the simulated smoke which is actually the vaporized mist evaporating into thin air relive the total smoking experience minus the harmful chemicals and toxins.
Electronic cigarettes are non-flammable. It is powered by a certain kind of microelectronic technology powered by a rechargeable battery and a replaceable or refillable cartridge that contains water and nicotine mixture, propylene glycol and a flavor that emulates real cigarette. In the middle part of the device is a canister-like membrane known as atomizer. This is where the vaporization is done.
The body of electronic cigarettes is usually made of stainless steel shell, a lithium battery case, microelectronic circuit, sensors and the atomization chamber. The cartridge or the mouthpiece itself is composed of the inhaler and the liquid container. Most electronic cigarettes use a specialized lithium battery and charger.
So how exactly does an electronic cigarette works? Once you inhale through the mouthpiece, the air flowing into the device is detected by a certain microprocessor that will then activate the atomize cartridge to inject droplets of the nicotine solution to be converted to water vapor. This is inhaled by the user in the form of smoke-like mist composed of the nicotine solution. The user will then release the vapor as propylene glycol. The same microprocessor also activates the orange LED at the outer end of the device which simulates a lighted tobacco cigarette. This will be activated the moment a user inhales through the device. Once the user stops inhaling, the atomization is also terminated and the operation will automatically go on a standby mode.
When using electronic cigarettes, you have to keep its horizontal position as much as possible to prevent inhaling the liquid into your mouth. Once you notice that the LED is dimming, it only goes to show that you are running out of battery.
So if you are trying to find a better alternative to tobacco smoke with no tar, carbon monoxide and carcinogens, you might want to try using electronic cigarettes. It is safe, produces virtually no air pollution and secondhand smoke, no third-hand smoke lingering in clothes, home furniture and car seats, no teeth discoloration, only plain nicotine that you can control.
