Over-indulgence of alcohol can gradually result into addiction and can render one unable to perform their duties effectively without having to drink. This is known as alcoholism and can be categorized into three stages; early, middle and end. While one or two drinks consumed daily can be considered healthy and acceptable, increased frequency and heavy drinking is seen as a sign of early addiction. Behaviors that are morally unacceptable, impaired thinking and unexplained fears are just some of the symptoms that are associated with the end stages of this addiction. This is a risky time since health issues usually arise here, with both Physical and mental issues being at their highest. At this level, the body organs will get damaged and resistance to diseases will be greatly reduced. Not only will this happen, but family and social relations will deteriorate as well as the work environment which eventually creates financial and legal problems. At the final stages of alcoholism, the digestion process is largely affected, blocking nutrients from entering the blood stream through the intestines and leads to malnutrition. Liver dysfunction sets in and a diseases known as liver cirrhosis develops. This is not all because the stomach gets affected too. Since an alcoholic has a tendency of taking alcohol on an empty stomach, the digestive gastric juices produced will eat way the stomach lining and this will lead to ulcers. In the final stages of alcoholism, even the personality of the person is highly affected because they their level of morality goes down and the person is not able to face other people not unless he is under the influence of alcohol. Treatment of this condition is however very possible if detected early enough. It calls for will power and cooperation on the part of the addict.
