If you are experiencing a pain in your shoulder and cannot recall an obvious reason why you may be having that pain, you should talk with your physician. The best treatment for shoulder pain, in some cases, is simple stretching exercises. The combination of stretching and strengthening exercises can help to treat and prevent shoulder problems.
When you visit the doctor he may perform resistance exercises with you to help him determine the extent of your pain. If he determines it is not a serious condition he may recommend that you implement a series of exercises to stretch the muscle joints. Stretching daily will help reduce your pain. Performing repetitive motions frequently is often the reason why many people experience shoulder pain, especially overhead movements. Often, we perform the same motions at work but participating in sports may require repetitive movements also. Full range-of-motion exercises can help to reduce pain and prevent it from returning if done on a regular basis.
Part of sport participation should always include stretching exercises before and after the game. Muscles need warming up to improve joint flexibility and decrease chances of being injured. A common exercise to stretch the shoulder and back is to reach your right arm across your chest, with the left hand grab the right arm just above the elbow and gently pull it farther across your body. Hold the stretch for 30 second. Repeat the same steps for the left arm.
Bursitis is most apparent in shoulder joints. It is the result of working the shoulder too hard. A group of four muscles and their tendons supports the shoulder joint when it is moving. Those muscles are the rotator cuff. Weak or exhausted muscles will not be able to keep the shoulder joint stable resulting in bursitis.
Rotator cuff exercises include resistance stretches with immovable objects, stretches including a handheld weight and stretches using resistance bands. These types of exercises will strengthen the rotator cuff to help stabilize the shoulder. A strong rotator cuff helps to prevent soft tissue injuries from recurring.
As a person gets older, rotator cuff tendons will become less flexible and prone to injury. We start to lose muscle mass as we age, by performing strengthening exercises we can help slow down that loss. Yoga is a great exercise program to alleviate and heal shoulder pain. People with different joint conditions such as arthritis, back, shoulder and neck pain can reduce their pain after starting a yoga program.
An alternative treatment for shoulder pain may be stretching and strengthening exercises. Adding an exercise program to your life can prevent shoulder pains from recurring. I tried stretching exercises when I was experiencing shoulder problems after consulting with my doctor. I incorporated a yoga class into the life and I no longer have shoulder problems. This alternative treatment worked for me but each person must do their own research and find what they feel will work best for them.
