Bariatric surgery procedures involve a lot of skin removal and numerous incisions. A post-bariatric patient therefore requires abariatric nutritionthat will enable the body to recover well. Thisbariatric nutritionshould also form the base of proper dieting to prevent chances of the patient relapsing into an overweight situation again. A post bariatric patient can typically not consume a whole load of food as a means of providing the necessary minerals, vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates needed to speed up recovery. It is thus crucial to incorporate otherbariatric productsto thebariatric nutritiondiet such that any component of a balanced diet that is not available in the patient's meal is derived from the complementingbariatric products.

In the first three months after the bariatric surgery, the patient'sbariatric nutritionwill be based on liquid and pureed food. The liquid food will be consumed for the first couple of days and then the pureed foods will be used for a couple of weeks. This is followed by soft food for a couple of months and subsequently hard food. Bariatric nutrition instructs that the post bariatric patient consume a minimum of 100mg of protein on the daily. The meals must therefore be rich in protein and low in carbohydrates, fats and calories. According tobariatric nutrition, proteins are essential for the healing process and the recovery and building of soft tissues and muscles. Protein rich diets induce a feeling of fullness and so the patients will not suffer from food craving.

To generate a 100mg of protein you need to consume a plateful of protein rich food. As the patient is not allowed to take a lot of food, bariatric productsin terms of protein supplements come in very handy. Most patients use proteinbariatric productsas meal replacements.

The most popularbariatric productfor protein supplementation is egg protein. This is one of the purest forms of protein. Thisbariatric productshould however not be used in thebariatric nutritionof persons who suffer from allergies resulting from eggs or chicken. For animal protein-intolerant people, soy protein or rice proteinbariatric productsare extremely good. Soy is good for thebariatric nutritionas it does not contain cholesterol. Rice protein is also a goodbariatric productas it is gluten-free and low in sugar, fat and carbohydrates. Bariatric Food Products Ltd stocks a whole range ofbariatric productsranging from soups, desserts, shakes, snacks and drinks.

Another crucial addition to thebariatric nutritionis vitamins and minerals. For these two we havebariatric productssuch as calcium, Probiotics and Omega-3 supplements.
