The cancer is one of the diseases which has required more attention because of fact that the cancers can occur across wide range of ages and is more prevalent, and is the 3rd most fatal disease causing more deaths every year. The bone cancer is one of the rare type of cancer, that constitutes lesser than 10% of the total cancer cases. But still it has gained attention due to the unavailability of a clear description of its causes and effects.

The bone cancer affects the children and the adults alike. The bone cancer mainly is characterized by swellings in bones or damage to tissues constituting the bone. The bone cancer is broadly classified as primary bone cancer and secondary or metastatic bone cancer. As other cancers, the cases of bone cancer are separated as the malignant and benign ones. The benign ones are the common and can be completely cured or tackled easily, while malignant ones are rare but have fatal impact.

Any bone related abnormalities should be taken to the doctor for consultation. The bone cancers don’t have explicit symptoms until some stage. At some stages, there may be developments of swells and lumps in the ones that will have a similar effect in the muscular regions and will lead to pain in the area. Most bone cancers start as a light pain in the bone and goes to a stage where there is burning sensation in the area. The bone cancer cannot be said to have certain cut out symptoms, but the any persistent conditions of above abnormalities are to be taken seriously and taken to the notice of the doctor, to have early diagnosis.

The different types of bone cancer affect different parts and the treatment too varies. The first step towards treatment is staging of the cancer to get the exact picture of intensity of the damage the cancer has done. Stages 1 to 3 represent increasing damage done. Most of the bone cancers are treated using a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. The radiotherapy is widely used as an additional tool to prevent the further infection. But surgery is the main treatment method. The type of surgery depends on the condition the cancer is in. The secondary cancers, where the cancerous cells from other organs infect the bones, are mostly treated by surgery. Chemotherapy is sometimes used to cure cancers but the side effects involved with it is a drawback associated with the treatment.

Thus we see that the bone cancer though not common is a disease to be aware of and the people must be aware of the symptoms so that quick diagnosis is possible. The quick diagnosis is the one thing which can reduce a great deal of risk involved with the cancerous disease. After treatment, its most often a perfect cure that has been administered, but some treatments to highly affected stages may require you to be more careful and have your precautions to avoid its development again, in the bones.
