The Law of Attraction simply says that the Universe will bring us more of what we already have and are. Everything we are, do and have projects energy to the Universe. This means that when we are kind, prosperous, happy, loving, and generous, the Universe responds in turn by naturally sending us more kindness, prosperity, happiness, love, and generosity. The question is how do we bring about good things when all we are currently getting is unwanted things? The answer is: fake it 'til you make it. One example of "fake it 'til you make it" is with losing weight. Often people with weight problems begin to think like "fat people." They make comments and jokes at their own expenses. They wear "larger" clothes. They stop doing activities they enjoy because they fear what others will think. Even if they begin exercising and eating right, it can be hard to break the old cycle of thinking—and this cycle continues to send "overweight" messages to the Universe. The solution? Fake it 'til you make it. Ask yourself, "How would a thin person think? What would they say? Do? Think?" By using the principle of "fake it 'til you make it," someone who is trying to lose weight can begin to change the root of the problem. When looking over a menu at a restaurant, ask yourself, "What would a slim person order?" When shopping for clothes, ask yourself, "What would someone who isn't trying to hide their body wear?" When deciding how to fill up your weekend, think about what a slender person would spend the weekend doing. All of these little things are the beginning of a new, thinner you. In Alcoholics Anonymous, there is a distinction between being "dry" and being "sober." Both dry and sober people don't drink any more, so how can you tell the difference? A dry person still has all the same dysfunctional habits as an alcoholic; they just don't drink any more. A sober person has re-learned a new way of thinking and living that is healthy, as well as no longer drinking. Someone who goes through the motions of change but hasn't learned to match the thinking to the doing still has a long way to go to send the Universe a clear, consistent message of focused energy. "Fake it 'til you make it" is all about tricking your thinking to be what you want it to be. By assuming the patterns of your ideal self before you actually become that ideal self, you have started to send the Universe a new code of data about yourself. It helps to get the ball rolling towards the new you. Project your thinking into the future and act out your life today as that person from tomorrow. Amazing things will start to happen. Sooner rather than later, the new you will be a reality, and you can begin to work on your next goal.
