You need not be chosen from a large group of hopefuls, because as father of the bride, you are unique. This also means that you will automatically need to fill those shoes at your daughter's wedding and write the speech of your life. You will hopefully only have to do this once for this daughter so you need to make it memorable and heartfelt. You have the enviable task of the father/daughter dance also, so scrub up your dancing shoes and get practicing.

Take Time to Prepare

Preparation is very important when writing your speech. You are however in a fantastic position in that you will be the only man there that has known your daughter since the day she was born, meaning you have decades of memories to select anecdotes from to talk about. You have the choice of talking about how she was a child or you could simply focus on the years since she met her then, husband-to-be.

The internet is your very powerful friend if words do not come naturally to you. You could simply use a search engine to look up father of the bride speech samples and try to take some inspiration from them. Take your time to read through some examples and see if you like a particular style of writing.

Open and Honest

If you were to simply copy other father of the bride sample speeches then it would become apparent very quickly that you had done so. Speak from the heart and use your own memories, the speeches found on the internet should be used for inspiration only. Opening lines are often the most difficult to write, because they are the small string of words that form the tone for the rest of the speech. You will find that once you have penned this very first line, the words will begin to flow from ink onto paper.

Your main job of the day is to watch your daughter smile as you read the speech that you have written about her. Be honest, be frank, and do not be afraid to embarrass her just a tiny bit. Talk about how you have watched her grow up and into the beautiful young woman that she is today. A classic joke to tell would be that you have been waiting all of her life to give her away again, this usually gets a sniggering laugh from the older members of the audience. Finish off by thanking all of the attendees for travelling to come and share your daughter and son-in-laws special day. This is always appreciated, especially by those whom have travelled a fair distance to be there.

Thank you for the time you spent with me reading this article about father of the bride sample speeches ! I'd also love to meet you on my blog to have a chance to tell you more about wedding speeches - actually you could start by browsing the category page for father wedding speeches right away - you will want to share it with others.
