Female Infertility Treatment

Female infertility is very common today with about three out of four people overestimate byfive years the rapid decline in female fecundity with prime childbearing age occurring up to age 32 for females and a rapid decline at 35 instead of 40 as most people commonly believe. According to studies, in the United States, about 6.1 million women have problems getting pregnant or carrying a baby to term. Fertility specialist Dr. Sherman Silber says that only 1 percent of women in their early 20's are infertile but by their late 20's, 16 percent are infertile, and by their mid-30's almost 25 percent are infertile. By age 40, 60 percent are infertile and by age 43 it would be a rare woman who is still fertile. Dr. Silber recommends that a woman who expects to delay childbirth beyond age 30 have her gynecologist perform an antral follicle count ultrasound at about age 25. According to doctors, fertility starts declining after age 27 and drops at a somewhat greater rate after age 35. In terms of ovarian reserve, a typical woman has 12 percent of her reserve at age 30 and has only 3 percent at age 40. Eighty-one percent of variation in ovarian reserve is due to age alone, making age the most important factor in female infertility.

The issues of age need to be taken up with a qualified fertility specialist such as a reproductive endocrinologist. Smoking is another cause of infertility in women, and the degree of damage is dependent upon the amount and length of time a woman smokes. Some damage is irreversible, but stopping smoking can prevent further damage. For curing infertility, there are drug treatments, like Clomiphene, HCG, Bromocriptine, Pergonal, Pure FSH and LHRH. Many specialists also recommend tubal surgery as a method to cure infertility in females. In order for a normal pregnancy to occur, at least one healthy patent tube is required. Each tube forms a passage from the uterus to the ovary. The tubes are lined with many specialized cells. Some of these bear little hairs called cilia that set up currents to facilitate the movement of the sperm towards the egg in order that fertilization may occur. A current in the opposite direction combined with tubal movements conducts the early embryo towards the uterus. Female infertility treatment should first address any underlying medical condition that may be contributing to fertility problems.
