Finasteride is a drug that belongs to the aza-steroids. The drug acts as an inhibitor of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The drug inhibits DHT by binding to the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase which speeds the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Finasteride was initially used in medicine to treat prostrate cancer.
