Doing those mundane, yet necessary, tasks of every day life result in a perception of life that is lacking in meaning. Getting into a rut and feeling like you're not accomplishing anything but survival will eventually lead you to a feeling of emptiness and lack of motivation that will halt your ambition to achieve those exceptional things in life that give you purpose. Find meaning in life to connect you to your true path and purpose and live the life you were meant to live. Taking on a few positive habits that can ideally replace some of those not-so-positive habits will direct you to the situations and people that can bring you a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction with your life that can't be taken away by any external events. Check out the list below to see which habits you can start today: 1. Take some one-on-one time with yourself. This time should involve some kind of connection with your deeper self through meditation or prayer. There's many different ways to put this into your daily life and can be just 10-15 minutes of your day. 2. Control your reactions and feelings. Emotions play a big part in your overall achievements. If you're spending some of your time feeling angry, depressed or resentful, this is going to directly effect your ability to notice and act on the opportunities that are around you to improve and enhance your life. When you are feeling those negative emotions try repeating some positive affirmations to yourself. Keep a list of these affirmations with you so you always have a reminder of this powerful technique. 3. Take action before you feel like it. This can be related to many different areas of your life. If there is something that you could be doing that would be a positive change for you then you're not likely to really feel like doing it to begin with. Get in the habit of just doing it and then the 'feeling like it' will come later, especially if it's something that is meant for you to do. 4. Do things for other people. Get the focus off yourself and what you think you want and put that focus on someone else. This could be in the form of formal volunteering or helping out someone you are already acquainted with. You will find that you get a lot of satisfaction from giving your time to someone else and the amount of time can be as little as 1 hour a week. We are all made to connect and be of service to others - it's human nature. Start with just one of these ideas and incorporate it into your daily life then when it's a regular part of your day add something else. With just a few simple changes, you will be on your way to improving your overall emotional and mental well-being.
