Watermelon contains plenty of nutrition. It has the effect of relieving summer heat, eliminating worries, and quenching thirst. As a result, it is the best fruit in summer and nearly every one will eat watermelon every day. However, do you know there are some taboos of eating watermelon?

First, diabetes patients
Watermelon contains about 5% of saccharides, with glucose and sucrose as the major part. That is to say, eating watermelon will raise the level of blood glucose. Normal people can secrete insulin in time and maintain the normal level of blood glucose and urine glucose. However, it is a different matter with diabetes patients. Eating too much watermelon in a short period will increase the level of blood glucose significantly. If the patient's condition is serious, it may cause metabolism disorders, and even threaten the life. The daily intake of carbohydrates for diabetes patients should be strictly controlled. As a result, if the patient eat watermelon several times in one day, then the amount of rice and flour products should be reduced accordingly.

Second, patients with renal insufficiency
For the patients with renal insufficiency, the function of discharging water from the body is greatly affected. As a result, they often suffer from limb or systemic edema. If these patients eat too much watermelon, there will be too much water accumulated and can not be expelled out from the body immediately. It may not only make edema much more serious, and is likely to cause acute heart power failure. Therefore, patients with renal insufficiency should eat less watermelon.

Third, puerpera
As puerpera is always physically weak, so doctors of traditional Chinese medicine believe that eating too much watermelon will bring damage to the spleen of the puerpera.

Fourth, it is unscientific to eat watermelon before or after a meal
As the large number of moisture in the watermelon will dilute the digestive juice in stomach, thus it will affect the digestion and absorption of the food in the body. What's more, eating too much watermelon before a meal will take up too much space in the stomach, so it will affect the absorption of the nutrients that you take from the food. Such influence will be much more serious for the health of children and pregnant women.

Fifth, do not eat too much watermelon
As watermelon belong to the kind of "cold food", eating too much of it will injury the lienogastric, leading to poor appetite, indigestion and the decrease of gastrointestinal resistance, which will in turn cause abdominal distension and diarrhea.
