The field of psychology is vast and there are many branches dealing with aspects of behavior change and emotional responses. Forensic psychology deals with understanding  the laws of psychology and applying the psychological opinion by analyzing the sanity or insanity of criminals. The number of crimes committed increases daily and a forensic psychologists is able to use background information given and derive a just conclusion.

There are terms and references used in courts which forensic psychologists should understand to be able to communicate effectively. After listening and evaluating the case and relevant information, the expert advises on the way forward. This may be sentencing of the criminal, treatment or incase the information is not satisfying, he may ask for more time to continue with investigations.

In order to give credible findings, forensic psychologists should gather the information from all parties, the court and the people who were involved in the scenes. He should also be able to know the status of the criminal and use the theoretical orientations that can be applied in such a case.  He should also understand philosophy and ensure that human rights are not breached. Later, he is supposed to proof read his writings and make corrections where necessary.

These experts are trained in clinical and social organizations. They are involved in giving recommendations in areas involving mitigating factors, assessing the future risk and evaluating witness credibility. There are numerous inventions and changes taking place in this field to increase credibility and access accurate information. An expert should review journals and magazines to remain updated and simplify his work.
