Indigestion is the most often pronounced ailment of modern times branching out into varied abdominal diseases. The most common one would be Gastritis. To research into the symptoms of this ailment would be acid reflux or heartburn, pain in the abdomen, excessive burping, puking or vomiting, nausea and difficulty in releasing gas.
Causes of Gas
Gas in the digestive tract - the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine comes from two sources, which include:
1. Swallowed air
2. Normal breakdown of certain undigested foods by harmless bacteria naturally present in the large intestine
Swallowed Air
Air swallowing is the common cause of gas in the stomach. Everyone tend to swallow little or small amounts of air when eating and drinking. Eating and drinking rapidly, chewing gum, or smoking can cause some people to take in more air.
Breakdown of Undigested Foods
When body is unable to digest and absorb carbohydrates – sugar or starches in the small intestine due to the shortage of certain enzymes.
The undigested food then passes from the small intestine into the large intestine, which normal is harmless bacteria break down the food, producing hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and, in other people, methane. Eventually these gases are exited through the rectum.
Foods cause gas
Most foods that contain carbohydrates can cause gas. By contrast, fats and proteins cause little gas.
Sugars
The sugars that cause gas are raffinose, lactose, fructose, and sorbitol.
Raffinose
Beans contain large amounts of raffinose sugar. However, fewer amounts are found in cabbage, broccoli, asparagus and whole grains.
Fructose
Fructose is naturally exists in onions, pears, and wheat. It is largely used as a sweetener in some soft drinks and fruit drinks.
Home Remedies toget rid of Gas
1. Drinking water with two three drops of mint essence
2. To prevent acid in digestion, lime juice with cider vinegar in a glass of water before meals
3. Ginger tea after meals aids in promoting digestion
4. Herbal tea prepared using blackberry, raspberry, mint and chamomile helps effective digestion
5. Baking soda in a glass of water produces instant relief
6. A pinch of asafetida in buttermilk helps in releasing gas
7. Sucking cloves after meals aids in reducing gas problems 8. A flake of garlic swallowed with water in empty stomach solves gas problems
9. Soaking little methi in water in the night and drinking it empty stomach in the morning is also an effective remedy for indigestion.
10. A few drops of Eucalyptus oil if added to hot water, its steam provides relief during cold.
11. A mixture of ginger juice & honey (warmed) ,if taken before going to bed brings great relief to sever cough.
12. In a cup of warm water, add 1/2 tsp of dry ginger powder with a pinch each of asafetida and rock salt. Drink this mix to get relieved from gas.
13. Take a cup of lukewarm water and add 2 tsp of brandy. Intake this before going to bed.
14. Soak some ginger slices in lemon juice. Chew this after every meal. This would help cure gas.
15. In a tsp of honey, add a drop of dill oil. Intake this after every meal to help treat flatulence.
