This article will examine the general use of glycolic acid, as it is related to the management of acne.

The treatment of acne scars and acne can be achieved effectively by using glycolic acid, which is a popular alpha hydroxy acid. Many different skin care creams, list this product as an active ingredient. Part of the reason for its popularity is based on its effectiveness, as it relates to destroying bacteria. The reduction of papules, pustules and comedones can occur if the acid is used over a specific period of time. The composition of the acid makes it very good for the skin as there are very few side effects that are associated with its use.

Aside from being effective at fighting acne, glycolic acid can also be used to help fight scarring that is associated with this skin condition. When pimples attack and destroy the skin tissue dark blotches are often left which can turn into scars. In using the acid, you will likely see these scars being reduced. The complete removal of scars are some of the claims people make when using glycolic acid products. This is determined by the length of time it is used. Generally individuals have seen results in 3 months, but it is safe to say results can be seen between half a year to 1 year after daily use.

If you want to treat acne with glycolic acid, you can purchase many different lotions, face masks and scrubs. It should be noted that using glycolic acid can result in the skin being very sensitive. Sun burn can become common to individuals because of this. It should be noted, that if you do plan to go out in the sun, you should have ample sunscreen.
