Throughout you life you have set and achieved goals.  As a baby your goal was to walk.  As a child your goal was to ride a bicycle and as a teenager your goal was to graduate high school.  Most of these goals were achieved with the help of parents, friends, or teachers.  Now that you are out on your own it is up to you to achieve your goals.  Buy following these few goal setting activities you will achieve success.

The Picture of Success

Find a picture of your final goal.  If your goal is to become a top executive find a picture of a businessperson you would like to emulate.  If your goal is to own a big house then find a picture of your dream house.  If your goal is to increase your self-esteem find a picture of an activity that exudes confidence and pride.  Place this picture on your bathroom mirror so you see it every morning as you get ready for the day.  This will be your daily reminder of the goal you seek to achieve.

The Lists

The next of your goal setting activities is to make two lists.  Write these lists on a chalk board or white board that can be erased easily.  On the left list your long time goals.  Be it losing weight, getting an "A" in Chemistry or getting a promotion by the end of the year.  On the right make a list of 3-5 interim goals you need to achieve the following day that will move you to your final goal.  Each day try and achieve these goals.  Do not get discouraged if you fail to achieve all your daily goals.  Simply keep the unfinished goals on the board for the next day.

The Reward

The third list you want to make is a list of interim goals.  These interim goals are fairly large milestones on the way to your final goal.  As each of these interim goals is achieved plan a celebration.   Throw a party, take a vacation, spend the day at the spa or go to the baseball game.  Plan on including a friend or loved one as part of reward as this will make your reward all the more worthwhile and fun.   It does not matter what reward you choose; it just must be extra special and very enjoyable.

The Team

To achieve your goals it is best to assemble a support team.  Select a few friends and family and a mentor who has achieved your goal.  Let your loved ones know what your goal is.  Tell them their job is to help you stay positive and motivated.  Your mentor is there to offer advice and guide you towards your goal.  The mentor’s job is to help you stay on track and make the right choice that will lead to success.  By following these few goal setting activities you will quickly achieve success.
