Divorce has proven to be a challenging time for many people. Whether the divorce was on their terms or not, getting through these trying times may be extremely difficult. Legal proceedings are often the last thing on a person's mind when they're getting divorced. An affordable divorce attorney may be very helpful in assisting their clients as they work through divorce proceedings.

With a lot to consider, those going through a divorce may require a helping hand to help them sort through everything and make the best decision for their case. Child support, visitation rights and child custody agreements may be important to those who have children. Protecting one's rights is very important for parents going through a divorce. Many parents are entitled to visitation rights if they are not granted custody of their children and ensuring that they exercise these rights is important.

If one parent has full physical custody of the children, it does not necessarily mean that the noncustodial parent is not entitled to visitation rights. Both parents may share full legal custody, which means that both parties are entitled to make decisions regarding their child's education, health care and other important issues. In many cases, both parents are entitled to full legal custody while one parent is granted full physical custody with visitation rights granted to the noncustodial parent.

Other scenarios may also exist, however. It is important for both parties to explore all of their custodial options when going through a divorce so that they make the best decision for their children. In some cases, the Court may decide that it is in the best interest of the child that the noncustodial parent is not granted visitation rights. The Courts often consider the child's best interests and the rights of both parents when making a decision as to custody, child support and visitation rights.

In divorce cases where the couple does not have children, other factors may be important such as alimony. Understanding alimony and the different circumstances that may warrant the payment of alimony by one party is vital to protecting the client's rights. The divorcing couple may have different options in terms of how the alimony is paid as well. Some may opt for a periodic monthly payment while others may take a lump sum payment. Speaking to an affordable divorce attorney may be helpful in understanding issues such as custody, child support, visitation rights and alimony payments, as these laws may differ in each state.
