Who can sleep well or focus on what he or she doing if his or her gums have some defects? This is intolerable and can greatly affect an individual emotionally, physically as well as socially. One of the known gum disease that needs to be taken care of as early as possible is the Periodontitis. If you are not familiar with this, go on reading this article to have a grasp of some necessary information about this gum disease.

Periodontitis is gum infectivity due to damage of periodontium and the bones that supports the teeth. Periodontium are tissues that hold and enfold the teeth. It starts with the swelling of the gums due to bacteria and not taken care of. This is the reason why it expands and reaches the bones of that hold the teeth. Gums bleed and swell as well as the breath smells bad.

This periodontitis is the result of poor oral hygiene. If tartar and plaque buildup both on the gums and on the teeth for a longer period of time, the pockets located between the gums and the teeth lengthen down.  The pockets then collect plaque in an area with no oxygen resulting to more growth of bacteria. If the disease will be left untreated, painful tooth loss is the result. It should not be taken for granted as it can result to more serious problems like tooth loss and can boost the peril of having heart attacks. Old people and those who smoke often suffer this kind of gum disease. It is found out that smokers lose their tooth earlier than those who don't smoke because smoking can augment the harm in the tooth.

People give little care to this case usually because it's not painful like having toothache. They are too ignorant of the fact that periodontitis is a serious problem. The pace of periodontitis growth varies in every person even though they have the same quantity of tartar since the number of bacteria that plaques contain is different as well.

Maybe now you are a little bit worried if you have a periodontitis or not. Here are some symptoms that will be helpful to you to check your gum's health:

  1. Swollen gums.
  2. Constant bad breath.
  3. Bleedings gums when brushing your teeth.
  4. Loose teeth
  5. Something is wrong in the manner your teeth fit when you bite.
  6. Have pus between your gums and teeth.

Do you have and experience these things? If yes, you'd better have an appointment with your dentist the earliest time possible in order not to worsen this dilemma. Dental health is very much necessary for it has a big role in our daily activities. It is advisable to have a regular check up in the dental clinic to maintain your gums' health.
