Hair care and healthy growth of those tresses begins with simple steps like beginning right and keeping to it on a daily basis. This includes right way of shampooing hair with the products meant for your particular hair-type and conditioning and nourishing it so it looks glossy and healthy-and remains that way too.
Wet your hair then work a small amount of shampoo through out the hair, gently massaging your scalp with the pads of your fingers.
Do not wash your hair with soap or other detergents not formulated for the hair. They are highly alkaline and will upset your hair’s natural pH balance by stripping it of its natural oils.
Use gel to control hair when you want a "wet" affect. Apply gel sparingly to your hair once styled. To use for braiding, apply it to all of the hair before you braid, or when you want a clean, off-the-face effect, you can apply it to the perimeter hairline where lengths tend to be shorter.
Before conditioning, squeeze excess water from your hair (please be gentle) soaking wet strands don't absorb conditioner very well. To strengthen strands try a protein-based conditioner like Pantene Pro-V Daily Treatment Conditioner. If you suffer from a flaky scalp, try the following treatment every 2 weeks: Section your hair and rub the scalp with a cotton pad saturated with plain rubbing alcohol. Let the alcohol dry, then brush your hair and rinse thoroughly with warm water but don't shampoo.
Apply more shampoo and massage for the second time if needed, finally rinse all shampoo from the hair and scalp with clean water. Normal hair types can benefit from shampooing hair with products that contains aloe, glycerin, honey, amino acids or natural oils for moisturizing. Experiment with trial sizes of shampoos to find products that suit you. Remember always to rinse hair very thoroughly after shampooing to avoid any residue build-up. Also, be aware that the condition of your hair changes all the time depending on your health, chemical treatments and the weather. Products that are perfect for you at one point in time may need to be changed to allow for these variations.
Shampoo your hair regularly to keep the hair clean and the scalp healthy. Depending on the environment in which you live and work, even washing your hair once a day will not damage the hair as long as you use good quality mild shampoo that does not strip all of the sebum from the hair. If you are using a special thickening shampoo be sure to use an anti-residue shampoo once a week. Thickening shampoos work by depositing product to adhere to your hair so it just looks thicker.
To help to soothe an itchy scalp, try adding a couple of drops of pure lavender oil to the water that you rinse your hair in after shampooing. Herbs and botanicals smell excellent, but their affect on the hair has never been proven. Low levels of moisture result in dry hair. Shampoo can't do anything more than clean your hair. If you may not require, hair from your scalp down to your shoulders or waist is dead.
A 3-minute shampoo massage in slow, circular motions, using fingertips (not nails) onto the scalp readies the hair for rinsing. This can be followed up with a conditioner suitable for the hair type, which may be rinsed out or left in, depending on the individual’s status of hair health.
