For many, hair loss can cause them to lose their self esteem. They find themselves checking out other people's hairlines to see if they are as bald as them. For some they buy wigs and hair pieces to try and cover up the condition. There are treatments available for the many different hair loss causes. There are many different medical conditions that may cause you to lose your hair. Autoimmune disorders, such as alopecia areata, are a major cause of hair loss. With these conditions the immune system gets mixed up and attacks the different part of the body, confusing it for foreign bodies, such as infection. This can even affect the hair. It causes your hair to fall out in patchy sections. This can be treated a number of ways. You can choose creams or your scalp, cortisone injections in the scalp and immune suppressing drugs. Other medical conditions that can cause hair loss are thyroid problems and even diabetes. Hormones play a major role in hair loss causes. In women especially, hormonal imbalances can cause hair loss. This can happen at many different times and for many different reasons. The most common times for this to happen are during pregnancy and menopause. Other sources can also cause hormonal imbalances that can cause hair loss as well. Some of these issues are major illness, sustained high fever, major surgery, stress, anxiety, depression and even some medications, including birth control pills. The one upside to having a hair loss problem that is caused by a hormonal imbalance is that once your hormones level out, your hair loss problems should resolve on their own. Your genes are the most common cause of hair loss. The condition, androgenic alopecia, is a hereditary disorder that causes you to lose your hair. It is known by many other names such as male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness, common baldness and permanent baldness. This condition causes the testosterone in your body to convert to DHT even more in your body. DHT causes your hair follicles to shrink and weaken. This can make them come out sooner than they should and eventually makes them not come back in at all. This type of hair loss, however, has the most treatment options available, from Rogaine, Propecia and even Tricomin Therapy Spray. There are many other hair loss causes. There are conditions such as trichtillomania, which is a disorder in which one pulls out their hair compulsively. This usually presents itself around the time puberty sets in and can be cured with therapy in most cases. Also causes such as scalp ringworm or folliculitis, an inflammation and infection of hair follicles can also cause hair loss. Knowing what is causing your hair loss is the best way to treat it. If you use a product not formulated for your type of hair loss you will be disappointed, as you will not get the results you are looking for. However, remember that even treatments designed for your type of hair loss will not treat your hair loss overnight, as the hair growth process takes months.
