Menopause refers to the stoppage of menstruation and a stage when the female reproductive period of life comes to an end. It is a normal event in the life of each woman that occurs in the mid or late forties. The entire chain of the endocrine glands is affected that results in various unfavorable changes in the body. Number one: Modify your diet. Your diet is an important tool that you can use to help control your menopausal symptoms. Avoid foods that are high in caffeine and carbonated beverages, which contain phosphorous and can increase bone loss. Also try to minimize your intake of commercially raised meats like beef, pork, and chicken, as these meats may decrease the body's ability to metabolize estrogen. On the other hand, increase your intake of substances that are known to be estrogenic. Examples are alfalfa, soybeans, soy sprouts, crushed flaxseeds, garlic, green beans, tams, cucumbers, corn, apples, and olives. Other foods that you should include in your diet include grains, oats, wheat, brown rice, tofu, almonds, cashews, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

Number two: Exercise regularly. According to a study at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, daily exercises such as walking, jogging, bicycling, jumping rope, dancing, and swimming can relieve a lot of the symptoms of menopause. Aside from improved physical fitness, exercise also improves psychological health by boosting concentrations of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and serotonin. Therefore, it is important to find some time during the day to do some aerobics and stretching exercises, or just to relax and meditate.

Number three: Progesterone cream. Natural progesterone has been shown to provide partial relief to some women suffering from menopausal symptoms.
