Back in the old days a hen party used to consist of a few drinks down the pub and possibly a meal in a restaurant, these days the girls are making a weekend of it.
With the increase of web based companies such as It appears that the hens these days are moving away from the local pub and restaurant and are travelling further afield to make the most of the event. The most popular locations are London, Blackpool, Brighton, Edinburgh and Nottingham and there is no shortage of activities to choose from.
Some of the weekends can be as little as £99 including accommodation and when all things considered is not a significant amount of money. This is one of the reasons that since 2002 the amount of self organized hen nights versus organised events has dropped by an incredible 30%.
Part of it is to do with peoples hectic schedules, it is sometimes easier to let someone else take care of arranging the weekend thus alleviating the already stressed bride-to-be further complications. It is a sign of the times with the growth of internet users that there will always be someone somewhere willing to help things go with a swing.
So what sort of events are tickling the hens fancy? There is of course the classic "Pampering Day" which is extremely popular but some of the hens nowadays are being a lot more adventurous and with activities like "Paintballing", "Rally Driving", "Go Karting" and even "Pole Dancing" there is absolutely no doubt that the women these days are bang up for a good laugh.
Will the bubble burst? It seems unlikely to considering it has been on the rise year-on-year since 1998, today's woman likes a laugh as much as the guys do and as we can clearly see that is certainly the case when it comes down to being adventurous!
Tony Roberts, CEO and founder of "The Hen Party scene is at a peak at the moment and I can see it remaining that way for the foreseeable future, that is mainly because women want more than just a few bottles of wine and a meal, the ladies these days are all about having fun and that is what companies like ours are all about. People having fun and letting their hair down, and having an experience they'll never ever forget!"
