Hair is a person's crowning glory and it's not surprising that everyone yearns to have a full head of bountiful and luscious hair. Apart from a reflection of health, hair is also a measure of one's self-image, personality and confidence level. While dull hair is a sign that something is amiss with the body, hair loss is often the result of a hectic lifestyle, brought on by factors such as work stress, poor diet and over- use of chemicals. According to the American Hair Loss Association, women make up 40% of American hair loss sufferers . Hair fall in women is often gradual, with the rate accelerating during pregnancy and menopause. It becomes cyclical with seasonal changes and is easily affected by hormonal changes, medical conditions and external factors. Alopecia is the general term used for hair loss. Induced alopecia occurs due to oral intake of medication while alopecia areata is a genetic form of baldness in patches. Traction alopecia is most commonly found in people with pony tails or corn rows, whereby hair is pulled with excessive force. Trichotillomania is the loss of hair caused by compulsive pulling and bending of hair, occuring mostly in children. While hair loss may seem worrisome, there are many ways to improve hair health. One method is to use herbal actives which are gentler on hair and scalp. Gan added that a proper hair regime was essential in maintaining healthy hair. "A proper hair regime includes three simple steps. Step one, nourish hair by using Himalaya Revitalizing Hair Oil which nourishes hair roots. Step two, select a suitable shampoo/conditioner for your hair type. Himalaya's Protein Shampoois soap free and enriched with natural proteins to keep scalp healthier. Step three, use Himalaya's Protein Hair Cream for stronger roots or Hair Revival Cream to reduce hair loss," said Gan. Clinically tested by leading dermatologists, the Hair Revival Cream contains Palasha (Butea monosperma) and Palasha Bheda (Butea parviflora) claimed to enhance hair follicular density and strength. It also helps stimulate hair's growth cycle and induces multiplication of fibre cells. For soft and manageable hair, there's the Himalaya's Hair Detangler & Conditioner. The product has deep conditioning properties, and works well on knotted and tangled hair. With compositions of blue water lily and hibiscus, the shampoo helps moisturise hair. However, a proper hair regime is not the only way to ensure a healthy head of hair. It is equally important to avoid excessive use of chemical-based products, eat a well-balanced diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle .
