There are many different conditions that can be inherited from your parents. Many people feel upset about this because it is not something they can control. One of the many conditions a person can inherit is thinning hair. If you are at risk or suffering from hereditary hair thinning, it is important to understand why this is occurring in your body as well as what you can do to treat this condition. The scientific term for hereditary hair thinning is androgenic alopecia. Alopecia is the term for hair loss. Androgenic refers to androgens or male hormones, which is what the hair loss is derived from. Every person has testosterone in his or her body. This is what helps produce hair on the body and the scalp. DHT is a hormone that is created from the testosterone. This hormone attacks various parts of the body, including the prostate, which is a major cause of BPH (enlarged prostate) and even the hair follicles. It makes the hair follicles shrink and become weaker. This can make them come out before they are supposed to. It can even make them enter a resting phase, which they may not be able to get out of. It will continue to attack the hair follicle until it completely deadened. Once a hair follicle is dead, no hair can grow from it. This may sound quite scary but there are many ways in which this can be treated. If you fear you are at risk for getting hereditary hair thinning, you can have a DNA test done which will show if you have the gene that will cause this condition. It will not say that you will not ever experience hair loss as it can come from many different sources or even a combination of various sources, but just that you are or are not predisposed to this problem. Hereditary hair loss is one of the easiest types of hair loss to treat. This is because most hair loss products on the market are designed to treat this type, usually through a DHT blocking formula. It is important to do your homework on any product before you begin taking it. There are many different styles of treatment available for you to choose from. There are creams such as Rogaine, pills such as Propecia and even shampoos, sprays and herbal treatments. You can even choose to do laser therapy to help with this. With laser therapy you can just buy a comb that you use for about fifteen minutes at a time and watch your hair come back over time. We may not have a choice in receiving hereditary hair thinning, but there is still much that can be done. Science is even coming up with many new ideas for people when it comes to treating permanently lost hair follicles. The important thing is to consult with your doctor from the time you start to see the hair loss. This will ensure that you get the best treatment, which will allow you to have the best chances of regaining the full head of hair that you want.
