There are two vital signs in measuring blood pressure, namely: the systolic pressure and the diastolic pressure. The former is the top number while the latter is the bottom number. There is high blood pressure when the two numbers are too high.
High blood pressure can catch a person unawares; that's why it is considered as a "silent killer." Although some of the causes of high blood pressure is not known, there are known factors such as age: obesity, heredity, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, excessive smoking, intake of excess sodium, lack of exercise and other physical activities, intake of high cholesterol foods and some medications which have side effects.
Once there is high blood pressure, the person can experience chest pain, pain at the back of the neck, nausea, blurred vision, dizziness and headache. Since there is clogging of the arteries and blood cannot circulate normally, the heart, blood vessels, digestive system and the circulatory system can be damaged. There is a need of hospitalization if the blood pressure is too high. Medical intervention is necessary to prevent stroke, heart attack or even brain damage.
High blood pressure can be easily reduced either by natural or medicinal treatment. The natural treatment can be done by nutritional changes in the food intake daily. It is essential that the intake of fruits and vegetables should be more instead of fats and high cholesterol food. Include garlic, olive oil, onion, soy, cold water fish, whole grains and beans on your diet. Sodium should be reduced.
Moreover, sugar, refined foods, salt, junk foods, fried products, high fat dairy products, drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco or cigarettes and using dangerous and addictive drugs are bad to your health.
As a daily requirement, drink at least eight glasses of water daily. This is aside any liquid intake you have. This is for the smooth circulation of the blood to the heart as well as supply of more oxygen to the body in order for the heart to pump effectively.
In the event there is no medical intervention, high blood pressure can cause memory trouble, problems on visions, kidney damage and other heart conditions. Strokes and heart attack can result whenever there is arterial clogging which prevents blood to circulate to the heart. Another cause of stroke is when the blood vessel ruptures in the brain. High blood pressure if not attended medically can cause death. Strokes and heart attack are deadly since these are caused by clogging in the arteries. With this, the heart cannot function very well. The damage brought by stroke or heart attack can be permanent and sometimes irreparable. Treatment of high blood pressure may either be with herbal medicines or prescribed medicines of the doctor. However, there are prescribed medicines that have side effects. Herbal medicines are of course good for the health because aside from having no side affects these medicines have no chemical components in it.
