Hair loss can be attributed to numerous causes like hormone levels, genetics, diseases and medications. Diet is another cause of hair loss and can aggravate the symptoms of other causes of hair loss. Controlling what you eat is very important not only for healthy hair but also for a healthy body. The body is more immune to diseases that can affect the growth of hair.

The different nutrients play their own role in the body. Some are important for metabolism of enzymes whilst other for the keratinization of the hair. Looking at how diet affects hair loss means we also have to look at lifestyle. A lifestyle has is stressful coupled with a bad diet will cause hair loss. The following pointers will show us what to eat in order for loss of hair not to occur.

The hair is made up of keratin. Keratin is a protein, which makes protein very important. All enzymes and some hormones are synthesized by proteins. Proteins also have tissue building properties. Proteins are broken down by enzymes into amino acids. Amino acids are the ones that do the work in the body. In their absence, the scalp tissue starts to waste affecting the hair follicles. The structure of the hair is also weakened making the hair more liable to loss. Proteins can be found in pulses, legumes, fish, meat, poultry and eggs.

Vitamins are involved in boosting up the immune system. Increased immunity means there are increased chances of being healthier. Vitamins play a role in production of genes,  hormones, certain chemicals and hormones. The presence of vitamins is required for the metabolisms of proteins, and carbohydrates. There are many types of vitamins and each are found in different foods like vegetables, fruits, eggs, liver and milk. Sunlight also supplies vitamin D.

Carbohydrates are essential for providing energy for the function of the cells. Without this energy, the cells can't function properly. This causes malfunctions to occur. Some cells may also die. This will definitely affect the hair. sources of carbohydrates are abundant. It can be derived form cereals, bread, the different pastas, potatoes and other tubers and root crops.

Minerals also make an important part of the diet. This nutrient is required for the structural composition of cells and tissues. The different minerals are potassium, iodine, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosphorous. These are the major elements and there are also minor elements. Minerals are present in the synthesis of certain hormones and enzymes, in the formation of hemoglobin, maintenance and the metabolism of cells. Minerals can be found in milk and other products, like salt and vegetables.

Fats, like carbohydrates, are required for energy. Fats are more efficiently amassed than carbohydrates. They are required when there are low levels of carbohydrates. Polyunsaturated fats are the best and are found in seed oils.

The nutrients have to be present in the right quantities. There are dietary guidelines which one can obtain from a nutritionist and follow for a healthy diet. Eating right contributes significantly to keeping the hair healthy and in avoiding hair loss problems.
