I used to be a smoker and I wondered how does smoking affect the lungs. When I searched it online I was overwhelmed with information.  I learned that the entire body is affected and that the lungs are just the beginning.

One shocking statistic that I came across was that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both women and men. This is because among all the chemicals that are in cigarettes, 60 of them are known to cause cancer. Women used to be behind in this statistic, but with time it has become socially acceptable for women to smoke as well, and we get to share in all the health reciprocations now.

When lungs become filled with tar, eventually they start to die. This means that they can no longer move the way they are meant to. Many people think that this means it is difficult to inhale, but it is really the opposite. Once a breath is taken in the lungs can no longer return to the original shape and the next breath will be more and more difficult. A person with emphysema will find themselves never able let a breath out and therefore never really getting a good deep breath in. It is an extremely painful way to live and all smokers should be aware of this chilling prospect.

How does smoking affect the lungs? It fills them with tar and eventually destroys their shape and elasticity. It is a gruesome and devastating experience that could be avoided if cigarettes were put out for good.
