Your wedding gown is a lifelong reminder of your happy marriage that you deserve. And thus, you had better take the correct steps to preserve your wedding gown after your wedding day in order to make it intact in the coming days. If you deal with wedding gown carelessly, there are many consequences such as stains setting, the gown yellow and the fabric damage.

A wedding gown, preserved in superior condition can be passed on to the coming generations as a family heirloom. And that is why you must know how to preserve your beautiful wedding gown after the wedding.

Read on to know how to do it...

1. Soon after the wedding ceremony check your wedding gown for stains and write down on a piece of paper so you can tell the cleaner specifically about the stains spot. Stains can be in the form of a blotch of lipstick, drop of wine or some food.

2. Don't give your wedding gown for cleaning to ordinary dry cleaner; instead choose a professional dry cleaner in your area who specializes in cleaning and preserving wedding gowns. To find professional dry cleaner, you can take the help of friends or you can ask the bridal shop where you purchased the wedding gown. Or, if you decided to do-it-yourself, you can buy a wedding gown preservation kit easily available in market. But remember that you choose the right wedding gown preservation package. I can recommend you... .

3. Always carry your wedding gown in a bag, which came with your wedding gown. When you take your wedding gown to the cleaner, carry it in wedding gown bag.

4. Buy unbleached and non-dyed cotton sheet which has very little synthetic fiber. Prior to using the cotton sheet wash it in lukewarm water in order to make it dirt free. Remember... never use any detergent to wash the cotton sheet.

5. Wrap the wedding gown in this cotton sheet and then put it inside the plastic bag in a flat position to the time the gown delivered to a professional dry cleaner.

6. Tell your cleaner about the stains you have note down earlier while delivering wedding gown for cleaning.

7. Also, tell the dry cleaner about the ornaments that are glued on wedding gown as these pieces tend to fall off during the cleaning process. This little information can guarantee that your cleaner gives your dress the best care possible.

8. Ask dry cleaner to pack your wedding gown in acid-free tissue paper after the dry cleaning.

9. Place top-quality acid-free tissue papers in between the wedding gown folds so that the dress does not get permanent wrinkles.

10. If you wedding gown carries fabric covered metal buttons, pins and sponge padding then store them separately as metal can get oxidized in due course of time and may leave stains on the fabric.

11. Use a vacuum sealed storage box to store the wedding gown and keep it in a dry place, away from dirt, smoke and direct sunlight.

12. Examine your wedding gown from time-to-time to check for any new stain or discolored areas and to allow your gown to breathe.
