If you’re like most people, you have no idea what to get a teenage boy for his birthday. Of course want to find him the perfect gift, but this can be a really tough and time-consuming decision if you don’t have a starting point. Every boy is different, so if you want to get him the right gift, you’ll need to take his personal interests and tastes into account. A generic present simply won’t do. By outlining his personality type, as well as his likes and dislikes, you shouldn’t have any trouble picking out the perfect present. However, if you’re still drawing a blank, I’ve listed a few gift suggestions based on personality type.

1. The All-Star Athlete. If he is always wearing his letterman’s jacket and constantly obsessing about the current season’s sport, then you’ve got to find a related gift. Consider getting him some athletic apparel, or workout equipment. Purchasing sports themed decorations for his bedroom will also be a great choice.

2. The Artist. If this guy can often be seen snapping photographs or rocking out on his guitar, then it’s safe to assume that he will love a gift related to his artistic pursuits. Consider getting him some music making and mixing software, or a cool turntable. An easel is also a great gift. If you’re looking to purchase clothing, get him a graphic tee or a new pair of Converse sneakers.

3. The Extreme Dude. If this guy is often seen around town on his skateboard wearing a pair of slip on vans and some skinny jeans, then you’ll have to get him an extreme gift. Consider looking at some paintball guns or maybe a cool new skateboard deck. Messenger bags will also be a big hit. If you looking to keep it low key, then buy him a new DVD.Lords of DogtownorDazed and Confusedare sure to make him happy.

4. The Class Clown. If he’s always seen cracking up his teacher and classmates, then it’s safe to assume he’s known around school for his great sense of humor. So make sure to buy him a gift that will keep the laughs coming. Purchasing him a classic Nintendo set or maybe a book on pranks will definitely keep him entertained. He’ll also love a new karaoke machine or some seasons ofFamily Guy.

5. The Nerd. If he’s known to get straight A’s and can usually be found hitting books up at the library, then you’ll want to get him a gift that will help him achieve his academic pursuits. Think about getting him an SAT prep book or cool new chess board. When it comes to clothes, he’ll probably love a preppy argyle sweater or a cool pair of black frame glasses.

Don’t stress out too much when searching for the perfect gift. Just take some time to sit down and think about his likes and dislikes. Try to pick out something unique and tailored to his personal interests and hobbies. No matter what you choose, he’s sure to appreciate all of your effort.
