For my height my ideal weight should be 75 kgs. So being the 92kgs that I am is not much fun and healthy. For the past 10 years I have been struggling to get to the 75 kgs level, but to no avail. I start off on an exercise program, get in the mid 80s and before I know it I give up and get back on square one. Haven't you gone through this before? Have you been wondering why this happens? Why is it that even though you start off with so much energy and conviction you lose steam halfway through? The answer can be found in none other than the Bible – the storehouse of wisdom.

In Matthew 16, the Lord advises us that, "No one patches up an old coat with a piece of new cloth, for the new patch will shrink and make an even bigger hole in the coat." If you are a Christian and have been reading the bible, I am sure you have come across this message. But I am doubly sure that you never looked at this message as the way I am going to put it across.

This advice practically applied to our lives means that ‘If you have to change you have to change as a whole, and not just in one part'. Get the point? Let's apply this philosophy in the above ‘weight-loss' situation.  You can exactly see why I was failing time and again. It's because I was only working on the exercise part of the program (new patch). By this philosophy, if I had to successfully lose weight then I need to change my eating habits; lifestyle and most importantly I need to change my mindset. I firmly believe that ‘Belief' leads to ‘Feelings', which leads to ‘Actions', which finally leads to ‘Results'. Just by starting exercising without the rest means working only on the ‘Actions' part. As it's said, if you want to be healthy you need to be ‘Health-Conscious'. That means I need to change my belief about health too. And how do I do that? I read books on benefits of staying healthy, I hang around with health-conscious individuals, I go to the gym regularly, I do not entertain any programs that show being overweight as acceptable, etc. etc.

By this same measure, if you want to be Wealthy you need to be Wealth-Conscious. Let's take an example of entrepreneurship. To get the results you need, let's imagine you work only on the marketing part, without working on the accounts, HR, systems, legal, etc. In this scenario, do you think you can achieve lasting success? Of course, not! Also, if you do not develop an entrepreneurial mindset by reading appropriate books, attending seminars, masterminding with fellow entrepreneurs, etc. you will not be able to keep going when the obstacles start showing up. Again, this points to the message – change the whole thing, and not just a patch

So the next time you set out to achieve a goal, think it through from all angles starting with how to change your beliefs in parallel with the necessary actions to be taken to get the results. Capiche?

God Bless.
