While there is no way on earth to eliminate the pain completely there are ways how to deal with a broken heart that will help you recover from a broken heart a little more quickly than you might expect. Relationships end all the time and not all of them end as the result of a mutual decision. Sometimes one person is more interested in trying to work things out than the other. Whatever your situation may be, there are some practical tips on how to deal with a broken heart below. Be sure to use them wisely.

How to Deal with a Broken Heart

1)   Avoid situations that bring pain. Clear out the things your ex left behind. Box up the photographs, trinkets, gifts, and other reminders of your time together and put them out of sight. Out of sight is out of mind after all. More importantly though you aren’t constantly confronted with painful reminders of your relationship. Change your routine if it takes you to businesses, shops, and restaurants your ex is likely to frequent. It’s better to find a new place to do business than to bump into your ex when you aren’t prepared mentally or emotionally for the nuclear fallout that might create.

2)   Avoid relying on crutches for comfort. It’s great to find ways to boost your confidence or make you feel as though you are ready to face the world. It’s something else entirely to develop a dependence on these things. Prescription medications for anxiety and/or depression can become crutches that are not necessary and may actually prevent you from experiencing the full grieving process. You can’t completely move on until you go through the stages of grief that you personally need to experience. This is one part of how to deal with a broken heart that is truly necessary.

3)   Find productive pursuits to fill your time. Learn a new skill, take up a new hobby, get in shape, or go out on a date. There are all kinds of things you can do in order to fill your time that are productive and will help you as you attempt to work out how to deal with a broken heart. It makes all the difference in the world at the end of the day when you haven’t faced another empty night locked up alone with your memories and sadness.

4)   Get involved. Whether you decide to become involved in your community, in support of certain causes, or in favor of a few great charities there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and make a difference in the lives of others each and every day. This will fill many hours for you, do some good for others, and bring you more contentment in your life while helping you with your problem of how to deal with a broken heart.
