You have probably experienced tinnitus sometime in your life. Tinnitus is the ringing sound that you hear in one or both of your ears. Theear ringing tinnituswould usually disappear without major intervention. But if the tinnitus continues for more than a day or two, it can be very irritating to the individual who experiences it. So, what are the things that could possibly cause the ringing of the ears?

There are many reasons why tinnitus happens to an individual. The most common and probably the best known reason for it is by exposing one's self to very high levels of noise. Sounds that are too loud could do a great deal of damage to your ear, especially the delicate and sensitive parts of the inner ear. The ringing ear effects from being exposed to really loud sounds are often temporary. If the effects last for a week though, the damage to your ears may have been more permanent.

Though it might seem irrelevant, aging can also cause the ringing in your ear. Aging is a natural occurrence. As we grow older, old cells in our body gradually die out and are not replaced by newer cells. The microscopic hair cells inside your inner ear are no exception. They may break easily when we get older, and it is though this breakage that we may get to hear a ringing ear sound.

Theear ringing tinnituscould also be caused by a severe head injury. When your head experiences trauma, it also sends a shock to all of the parts inside it. The brain, spinal column, and even the ears could sustain damage. If the impact is hard enough, the shock sent to the inner ear can be enough to trigger the ringing sound that you would hear.

High blood pressure can also play a part in triggering a ringing in your ears. The tinnitus that results from this is termed as objective or pulsatile tinnitus. People who have pulsatile tinnitus hear a whooshing sound inside their ear. The whooshing is usually in time with their heartbeats. The cause for this type of tinnitus is a constricted blood vessel near the ear that is often blocked by a build up of cholesterol.

Medicines can also cause tinnitus. If you suspect that the drug you are taking is the cause for your tinnitus, try lowering your dosage. You could also try another type of medicine for your condition that does not have ingredients that can cause ringing of your ears.

Ear infections can also one of the probable causes for tinnitus. Getting rid of the ear infection can also take the tinnitus away. You could also get the ringing in your ears from allergies. While most allergies seem harmless, some of them can actually affect your hearing.

The ringing in your ears can be quite bothersome. It mostly goes away on its own. If it does not though, you could try having implants or surgery, but it usually has no guarantee on its effectiveness. Otherwise, you could also try ignoring the ringing in your ears and or mask the noise with soothing sounds if you are in quiet places.
