No matter how long or short your relationship was, when it ends and you are not the one that ended it, figuring out how to get over someone and forget your ex becomes a priority in your life.

The longer you have been with someone and the better you thought the relationship was, the harder it is going to be to figure out how to get over someone and forget your ex.  But if you have only been with someone for a short time, it may not be that hard to move on quickly.  There are ways to get over someone and move on with your life.

* * The first thing you needto do when you are trying to get over someone is to go through you home with a fine tooth comb.  Even if you shared a home together and you moved out and you left it with your ex, you still need to look for things that that belong to you that evoke strong feelings for your ex. You need to get rid of anything the strongly reminds you of your ex.  Even if you don't want to throw it away, you need to store it to get it out of site for awhile so that you can forget your ex.

* * If you are the one that is stuck with a home that you both shared, this can be a little more complicatedto get over someone because it obviously doesn't make a lot of sense to throw everything out.  Most people can't afford to do this and you don't have to do anything that drastic.  For example, if you bought a bed or a couch together, change the pillows and put a slip cover on the couch or buy a new bed spread and sheets.  There are small things you can do that will help change the way you look at an object so that you are able to forget your ex.

It can be especially hard to get over someoneif you thought this person was THE ONE.  Even if you thought it came out of the blue, when you look back, there were signs that your ex wasn't happy but you just didn't see them. Do you know how to recognize the signs that your partner is about to breakup with you?

* * One thing that can be very therapeutic is to keep a journal. In the very beginning, you can write down all of the things that drove you crazy and that you hated about this person.  Then, when you are very angry, you can flip back to this list, occasionally ad something else and remember why you are glad this person isn't around anymore.  Of course, many people also kept a list of all the things that they loved about their ex but that isn't unusual at all.

* * When you are ready, you are over your angerand you have been able to forget your ex, you can start thinking about dating again.  You don't want to have the next person be your rebound partner though because you can just end up making someone else hurt as much as you do.  Be sure that you are really ready to move on and be able to commit to someone new should this person be great for you.
