While marijuana is considered a soft drug in comparison to others such as cocaine and heroin, it can still be very addictive and destructive. Many people find that their lives revolve around weed and it fills any voids in their lives. Weed becomes such a part of their daily lives that they feel they live in a haze and that they are missing out on some very important parts of their life. The first thing to know when learning how to quit smoking pot is that marijuana is not a chemically addictive drug.

Weed unlike others like heroin and cigarettes, is not a physically adictive drug and there are no physical cravings associated with it. Pot doesn't affect brain receptors, the way that hard drugs do. The addiction that you encounter when smoking weed is a psychological addiction. Your mind wants to replay the highs you once felt while smoking pot and tries desperately to get those feelings back again, even if it takes more and more pot to to do it, since your mind is becoming more and more resilient to it. Your smoking becomes more of a habit instead of a pleasurable action, and you begin to feel little benefit from smoking it.

Most pot smokers don't do it by themselves, they surround themselves with others who also smoke weed, so it becomes a very social occasion.

You should know that it is possible to stop smoking weed without cravings or relapses because you aren't combatting a chemical need but rather a psychological need that can be overcome with willpower.

This may sound very simple to some, but it may sound like a true nightmare to others. It can be a lot harder for those that have been smoking weed for many years, as there is a lot of history involved. Quitting smoking pot can bring out some pretty severe mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression or even rage. Living your life without smoking, which keeps your emotions at bay will be a challenge as you learn new daily routines. The ultimate trick is to find something to occupy your mind and keep it from having thoughts of smoking up. Doing something that makes you happy is important to being successful.
