Smoking is the world's biggest addiction and according to World Health Organization it kills more people than any disease in the world. Nicotine is more addictive than cocaine, alcohol and heroin and the biggest fact is that most smokers know these facts but they continue to smoke.

Why Do People Smoke?
The reason why people cannot give up smoking is because nicotine is a very addictive substance and gives the smoker a feeling of increased energy levels and alertness. In short it gives him a high. So when a person tries to stop smoking he suffers from side effects like difficulty in sleeping, weight gain, and low energy levels, this is one reason while 70% of people who quit smoking start smoking again.

Herbs That Help Quit Smoking
There are certain herbs which if formulated in the right combination can help overcome nicotine addiction.

Gotu Cola
Botanically called centella asiatica is a very highly regarded herb in ayurvedic system of medicine. It helps the body supply oxygen rich blood to the brain thereby helping the mind calm down and relax while one is trying to quit smoking.

Avena Sativa
This herb has a soothing effect on the nervous system and helps the body recover from the damage smoking has caused to the organs.

St. John's Wort
This herb is very popular in treating cases of depression. As we all know one of the side effects of smoking is a depressed mind. This herb helps overcome depression and helps the mind relax while going through the quitting period.

These were some of the herbs which are highly effective and helpful in overcoming smoking. In the end I would just like to say that 'Quit Smoking before It Quits Your Life'.
