If when you think of a group of people, one particular individual keeps coming to your mind, your "antennas" should go up. Especially if this is a religious group. Cults are generally kept "alive" by the charisma and enthusiasm of one individual. There is a mental pedestal from where this person seeks to control everybody. The interesting thing is that human beings subconsciously want to be controlled. Why? Human beings are generally lazy. We want someone out there to take responsibility for us. That way if something goes wrong, they are to blame and our self-esteem remains intact. Cult leaders prey on the lack of confidence and weak- will in the human nature. What propels them onto the pedestal that their followers have built for them is their ability to give the impression that they are bold, confident and know where they are going and can take you with them. Their intolerance for questions and independent thinking among their followers, is accepted in a positive light rather than in the negative light, that every straight thinking person should be able to see it. Unfortunately, people who are generally drawn to cults are those who are genuinely seeking acceptance from a group, to boost their flailing ego. The cult offers them a place where they feel accepted. If you belong to a group of religious people where you are not encouraged to think for your self, and where one person's word is the "gospel truth", gather up your belongings before it is too late and FLEE for your life!
