First off you need to see your doctor to check out these high blood pressure symptoms or signs. Once you have been told that you are in the high category then you may need to go on medication straight away to bring it down. Once on medication though, you usually stay on it. You should try to avoid this.

These cause high blood pressure because your body is trying to react and fix the problem, but is unable to. If you were born with a narrowing in the aorta of your heart, you can have high blood pressure. One of the side-effects of using birth control pills is that you may wind up with high blood pressure. Pregnancy can also cause high blood pressure, which can bring on a condition called pre-eclampsia.

Symptoms of High Blood Pressure: High blood pressure has no symptoms. But if you feel a dull ache in the back of your head when you wake up one morning, or you have few more nosebleeds than normal, you could have a high blood pressure. Headaches, nosebleeds, and dizziness are also common warning signs and symptoms of high blood pressure, but these do not occur until high blood pressure has reached a more advanced stage. However, many people even with the highest blood pressure readings do not feel any of these symptoms.

You will need to take blood pressure medicine for a long time. Drugs that help lower high blood pressure have various side effects. If you experience severe side effects from any drug, contact your doctor immediately. Drugs that lower blood pressure include diuretics, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers.

Everyone knows that you should watch your diet when you suffer from hypertension. Avoid fatty and processed foods, salt and excessive alcohol consumptions. Here are a few other tips that are effective:

• Avoid or reduce stress. Stress is a major cause of all types of illness and conditions. If you are stressed out, either remove the source of your stress or find ways to lessen it. Deep breathing, exercise and meditation work well.
• Eat a healthy diet. Add fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet, along with whole grains and spicy foods like garlic. Foods containing potassium and magnesium are especially good for hypertension.
• Get up and move! Simply walking for 15 or 20 minutes per day can make a difference in blood pressure readings. Make time in your day for this healthy activity.
• High-fiber diets can help the digestive system by its inherent ability to bind other food, which then allows proper digestion to take place.
• As the normal digestive processes occur, other organs such as the kidneys and the large intestines without cause for stress or hormonal imbalance will also perform proper waste disposal.
• As a form of standard dietary guide, persons weighing about 120 pounds are required to partake at least 25 grams of dietary fiber, while a person who weighs as much as 200 pounds should have at least 35 grams of dietary fiber.
