You make up your mind to take up a certain goal, but worry about the time constraints. It will take years to profit, if I venture into a new business now, It will take years to get back to reality, if break off my unfulfilling relationship or other thoughts similar to these are clearly discouraging and plummet ones motivation level down a bottomless pit. You should set a goal and make fruitful attempts to keep focused.

Time and goal setting

We value time and so tend to enjoy being in the present moment. Eventually, we overlook setting goals that take longer to achieve. Hardly anyone likes to sweat it out for years trying to be potentially better someday. There are many who just dont have the ability to do this, even if the rewards are beyond measure. However, the misunderstanding is that discipline is the real issue.

Time is often confused with being a resource we liberally spend, just like spending money. Time is a disposable resource and generates money. Even the not so important decisions like how you spend the day, your vacation, rest of the year are dependent on how much time you spend.

Obstacles in achieving goals

One major reason for people missing out or not achieving goals is not because they are not tough, but it is difficult to stay focused on goals. There might have been instances in life where you set the goals but noticed the obstacles follow. This is when you should not pay much attention to the obstacles and concentrate on the goal. If you concentrate on the obstacles, your motivation will begin to wane and reaching your goals would be a tougher job. Lack of money, time, resources, knowledge and experience are common examples of obstacles.

Overcoming Obstacles

Goal setting is not supposed to be a tool to control the future. This is senseless, as the future to everyone exists only in imagination. The value of goal setting is that it enhances the quality of the present moment. Setting of goals gives an individual greater clarity and the ability to focus. Ask yourself, How does setting this goal improve my present? and you will get your answers. If the goals are not real, then they are worthless and you might as well dump them. But if the same goals bring greater motivation, clarity and focus to your life when you think about them, they will work for you.

The best way for overcoming obstacles is to break the goals down further and concentrate on each piece. When you complete each step along the way, the picture of the larger goal comes together.

For instance, say you have debts of $10,000 that have to be paid off. Dont focus on the figure $10,000 rather concentrate on paying off, even if it is $100 - $500 per month.

When you think about goals, in a way the mere thought is encouraging and it is natural to initiate action congruent to the goal. You can remove the obstacles if you break down your goals into achievable tasks. In this way, you will be able to stay focused and reach your goal much faster.
