If you're thinking about how to stop a divorce, the outcome of your efforts depends a lot on who made the initial decision to end the relationship in the first place. If you initiated it and are now wondering how to stop your divorce, you should be aware that your situation is much better than most people who are trying to save their marriage. This may be a bit difficult but you have to set aside your ego and apologize to your spouse explaining that you acted in haste and regret it. Make it clear that you no longer want the divorce and that you spoke with anger at the spur of the moment.

Since you were the one who brought up the subject of divorce, you need to quickly discover how your spouse has taken to the idea. There is a chance that your spouse, in spite of themselves, may have started seriously thinking that the relationship really is beyond repair. If this is the case, it is essential that you communicate as quickly as possible to your spouse that you made a mistake and that you want to save your marriage.

On the other hand, if you are thinking about ways to stop a divorce when you did not want it in the first place, then you have your work cut out for you. It is important that you stay very mature and calm the first time you are confronted by this decision of your spouse. If you scream, accuse or make a scene, you're giving your spouse even more reasons to want to part ways with you. If you want to stop your divorce you have to let go of any anger and resentment you feel toward your spouse for even suggesting it in the first place. Try to explain in a composed manner why you feel that the marriage is worth saving. It is one thing to cry while explaining that you want to stay married, and entirely another to yell or dissolve into hysterics!

If your spouse has any legitimate grievances against you, be willing to address them and work on them. Make it clear that to your spouse that if they are unhappy with the way things are you are willing to make efforts to improve the situation. If you also have a few things which you don't like about your spouse, instead of bringing it up directly when they have brought up the subject of divorce, it may be a good idea to suggest to them that both of you go for marital counseling.

Finally, you should realize that stopping a divorce after a marriage has run into problems is an ongoing process and requires efforts from both sides. After a period of time if you feel there is a lack of effort and cooperation from your spouse in saving the marriage, then it is probably time to let go and move on. Hopefully the tips given here would have provided you with some information about how to stop a divorce.
