There are many factors that can be attributed to thin hair. Amongst them are disease, stress, medicine, genetics and malnutrition. All of these causes of hair thinning can all be controlled and the proper structure of hair restored. The following is a rundown of some of the procedures that can be followed so to stop hair getting thin.

The first procedure is to take a good look at your diet. Diet is the source of fuel for hair growth. If the necessary minerals and nutrients required for hair growth are deficient in the diet no hair growth will occur but instead hair thinning will start to take place. It is therefore important to make sure that your diet is rich in essential amino acids, iron, vitamins and other elements. All these nutrients will be used in the maintenance of hair follicles which will boost hair growth.

The next thing will be to look at the way in which you treat your hair. Many women lose a lot of hair not because of disease or genetics but because of the cosmetic chemicals they expose their hair to. Relaxers and hair curlers contain chemicals which interfere with the bonds that hold together hair strands. When these are affected due to the presence of such chemicals they become fragile and more prone to breakage. With time the rate of hair loss exceeds that of hair replacement which then results in hair thinning. The best move will be to stop using chemicals such as relaxers or at least use the mild hair relaxers which do not trigger hair loss.

The next step will be to make sure that you give your hair a good and healthy wash. This is what hair shampoos are good at. Hair shampoos nourish the hair with vitamins, proteins and minerals. These ingredients are very important in maintaining hair strength and thickness. The vitamin extracts also stimulate hair follicle function.

If hair thinning has reached an alarming stage, drug treatment may be necessary. Several drugs such as finasteride and minoxidil can be used to boost hair production and control hair thinning. Finasteride exists in the form of capsules which can be taken on a daily basis to promote hair growth. Minoxidil is available in the form of some topical creams which are available on the counter or by prescription. These drugs are very effective at waking up resting hair follicles, thus increasing hair density.

The final step in stopping hair getting thin is exercise. Exercise, though one of the most overlooked procedures of hair replacement therapy, is actually one of the most effective. Exercise increases the amount of blood reaching the hair follicles. This means nutrients and oxygen supplies always reach the hair follicles in time. Exercise also helps the body eliminate toxins more efficiently. Toxins can kill hair follicles which will cause hair thinning. Exercise increases the total number of red cells as well as the white cells. This translates to a more effective immune system which fights infection and stops hair thinning.
