Panic attack occur when your brain misinterpret a situation and responds inappropriately with a full fight or flight reaction, ready to deal with a perceived threat which doesn't exist. You can also imagine it as a sensitive smoke alarm, going off when you burned the toast, there's no real danger and its just a false alarm.

Symptoms of a panic attack includes palpitations, increased heart rate, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, fear of losing control or 'going crazy', nausea, dizziness, feelings of unreality, etc. The problem with these attacks is that once you have had one, the fear of another may cause it to happen again and again.

Obviously, you will be very worried about your physical well-being when your first experience these symptoms, thinking that you have some "mysterious illness" and your "about to die soon". Let me assure you now that neither is about to happen, yourNOTdieing and yourNOTstuck with some mystery illness.

These feelings and symptoms, not matter how strong they are, cannot harm you. This is a fact, its not something I made up just to comfort you. It a medically proven fact that panic attack cannot harm you. You will not suffer any heart attack. You will not suffocate. You will not go mad. You will not die. This is the facts.

The first step in learning how to stop panic attacks is to acknowledge these facts. Accept that you have panic attack, don't run or hide from it, because you have nothing to fear. You cannot fear something which cannot harm you. Tell yourself that you are okay and your fine.BELIEVEthat your not dieing and your fears are all unfounded.

Be assertive and think positive thoughts. I am not talking about rainbow, kittens, flowerpots or sunshine. Try "I am not going to die, this is just a panic attack, and I know that I am healthy."

Learn to live with the panic attacks butNEVERgive in. It could be a long struggle, but believe that you will recover eventually.
