If you have paranoid thoughts and feelings, you need to stop paranoia before it interferes with your life. You can quit feeling mistrustful as you begin your anti-worry campaign. The first place to begin is an exploration of this complex emotion.
Paranoid Emotions and Thoughts
Consider the terms that are related to paranoia as you think about your state of mind and perception. Words that can be used in replace of this term include suspicious, fearful and mistrustful. These are unsavory characteristics that you may harbor but they do not define who you are. You simply need to change your thinking patterns and your emotional responses.
Now think about other words associated with the term paranoia. These include unreasonable and obsessed. These terms help you recognize that your thoughts and feelings are out of touch with reality. You are obsessed because you lack the capacity to trust. You reinforce this negative feeling with unreasonable perceptions about things that go on around you.
Matters of Interpretation
Your perception is automatic and seemingly impossible to control. You see things the way they are, or so you think. However, your perception can be very distorted, especially if you need to stop paranoia. You can begin looking at things more realistically when you work through your subconscious mind.
Consider the old example of seeing the glass half-empty or half full. This matter of perception is relatively simple to recognize. The positive person sees the glass half-full; the negative person sees it as half empty. This type of perceptive exercise can be applied to your perception of those around you.
For example, a person may call and offer to help you mow your lawn. A reasonable person is delighted that the neighbor is so thoughtful. An unreasonable, paranoid individual may think that the person must have ulterior motives. “I wonder what he wants in return,” or “The neighbors must be gossiping about how horrible my yard looks”.
Stop Paranoia for Good
Your mistrust and paranoia is damaging and you do those around you a disservice with your harsh perception of them. Your thoughts are unreasonable and your emotional response is nothing short of ugly. So why can’t you stop if it bothers you so much?
You may have good reason for your perception of others. Bad experiences in your past have a profound effect on your interactions with the world around you. Using your subconscious mind, you can overcome your perceptions and build a healthy new relationship with the world around you.
