If you are feeling tired and sluggish during the day and need an energy booster, here are a few tips to help you rev up your energy. - Close your eyes. No, we don't necessarily mean to take a nap. But, did you know that a leading cause of daytime tiredness is eyestrain from staring at a computer for too long? You also tend to blink 30% less often when you're sitting in front of a monitor. This can lead to tired eye muscles and headaches. One solution is to close your eyes every 20 minutes or so and roll them slowly from side to side for a few seconds. This should help reduce muscle tension and give your brain a little charge.
- Walk. You can avoid sluggishness after meals by taking a 5 or 10 minute walk. It takes a lot of energy to digest food and walking will help increase the flow of blood and oxygen throughout your body. This will give you a boost of energy to help you start off your afternoon in the right direction.
- Gotu Kola. Gotu Kola is an Asian herb that helps improve circulation and strengthen communication between the brain cells, enhancing alertness and concentration. In addition, Gotu Kola contains natural anti-anxiety compounds called triterpenoids.
- Chew some gum. By chewing gum you can increase the flow of blood to the brain, thus helping you to think more clearly and have much more energy. This is according to a study at England's University of Northumbria. Note: Be sure and chew sugarless gum in order to save your teeth from the sugar in the gum.
